Manchester United will look to beat Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday, in a bid to secure Champions League qualification next season.

United’s first encounter against Newcastle this season happened back in October, a game where they created many chances but lacked the composure to finish things off. The Magpies’ time-wasting antics ultimately secured them a point in that game.

In their second meeting, Erik ten Hag and his players showed that they have learned their lessons. Putting the ball twice inside Newcastle’s net en route to Carabao Cup glory at Wembley.

Expect tomorrow’s fixture to be a feisty one, with Newcastle looking to avenge their cup final loss. Here is the team news for United’s third and final match with Newcastle this season:

Manchester United team news

At the start of the international break, Marcus Rashford was forced to withdraw from England’s squad after suffering a knock in the game against Fulham. In his pre-match presser, Ten Hag confirmed that Rashford has received treatment and joined group training. The manager hopes that his talisman will be available tomorrow

Raphaël Varane went into the break carrying an injury, while Marcel Sabitzer missed Austria’s game against Estonia after suffering a knock. Varane was spotted in the travelling squad to face Newcastle whilst his Austrian teammate is yet to be confirmed as available or not.

United will be without their midfield anchor Casemiro, who is still serving his suspension. Alejandro Garnacho, Christian Eriksen, and Donny van de Beek will also be absent. However, Eriksen is already ramping up his recovery process and is expected to be back soon. In what is perhaps the biggest news of all, Anthony Martial is in line to return for the first time since February.

Newcastle United team news

During the international break, Eddie Howe faced several injury scares to his players, such as Nick Pope (knock), Sven Botman (illness), Allan Saint-Maximin (thigh), and Anthony Gordon (ankle).

After several rounds of tests, Pope, Botman, and Saint-Maximin have all been declared fit to partake in training sessions and will be available for selection ahead of Sunday’s game.

That leaves Gordon out on the sidelines alongside Miguel Almiron, who’s out with a thigh injury, and Emil Krafth who tore his ACL back in August. Furthermore, Joelinton will be available after serving a two-match ban for yellow card accumulation.
