Two Manchester United transfers have seemingly been ruled out despite meetings with agents, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Reds are looking to finalise their remaining signings for Erik ten Hag’s squad in the coming weeks, with Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui being recently secured.

After bringing in Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee earlier this summer, United are now focused on strengthening their midfield and left-back positions.

Manuel Ugarte is the leading candidate to bolster the midfield at Old Trafford, while several players are being considered to reinforce the defence.

According to Fabrizio Romano, who was asked about Jarrad Branthwaite on The United Stand, it is unlikely that the club will sign another centre-back this summer.

There were reports earlier in the summer that three additions to the position could be possible, but it now looks likely that both Victor Lindelöf and Harry Maguire will remain at the club for the season.

Branthwaite had agreed personal terms with United earlier in the summer after meetings between the club and his agents, but Everton’s hefty price tag led the Reds to pursue other targets.

Now, Ten Hag has Maguire and Lindelöf, as well as Lisandro Martínez, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, and Jonny Evans as options in the centre of defence.

Meanwhile, the Italian reporter added that while United are considering a move for a left-back, Turkish player Ferdi Kadioglu is highly unlikely to be pursued.

Previous reports stated that the Old Trafford outfit had spoken to the versatile player’s representatives. He can also play at right-back and in midfield, but his price tag is too high for the Reds.

Romano said: “I don’t think this will happen for one reason: he is too expensive. Fenerbahce wants €30 million, and Manchester United are not prepared to spend that much on a left back.”

Instead, a loan player or potential free transfer could be a solution for Ten Hag’s side, while Diogo Dalot and Mazraoui are both able to help in the position.
