Two Manchester United stars ‘hoping’ to return from injury for Ruben Amorim’s first game
Two Manchester United stars are ‘hoping’ to return from injury in time for Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge against Ipswich Town.
Manchester United have appointed Ruben Amorim as their new Head Coach following the exit of Erik ten Hag from Old Trafford.
Ten Hag, who had his contract extended by a year during the summer, started the season poorly, leaving United 14th in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League.
This resulted in his departure on Monday morning, with the club acting quickly to bring in Amorim as his replacement.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the three upcoming games before Amorim comes in when the next international break comes.
His first game will be away from home against Ipswich Town in the Premier League on 24 November.
Left-back due hoping to return for Amorim’s first game
According to a report from ManchesterWorld, both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are hoping to be fit for Amorim’s first game in charge against Ipswich Town after the international break.
They would each be in contention to play at left wingback in the new head coach’s 3-4-3 formation.
Although, the 39-year-old could opt for safety and choose a player who does not have fitness issues surrounding them.
Diogo Dalot or Noussair Mazraoui playing there is the most likely option, although, it would also not be completely surprising to see Amorim try Alejandro Garnacho in the position.
The wingbacks in Amorim’s system are often high and wide, whereas the front three operate centrally. It seems that Argentine would be more suited to the wingback role.
Nevertheless, having Malacia and Shaw as options for the team would be a huge boost for Amorim.
The last time Ten Hag had both of them available for a game was against Manchester City in United’s FA Cup defeat in June 2023.
