With Ruud van Nistelrooy now stepping in as interim manager, Rúben Amorim is set to take over full-time after the November international break.
United’s recent form includes a commanding 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup, advancing them to the quarter-finals, where they’ll meet Tottenham Hotspur in London.
Sir Alex’s advice
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the tie, Van Nistelrooy has revealed that he spoke to his former United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, following his installation as interim boss, and explained the advice he was given.
“Yes, I spoke to him,” the Dutch former strike explained to the press on Thursday afternoon. “He wished me luck.
“We spoke shortly about my situation, shortly about the team, and most of all, he wished me luck before the game. It’s always great to speak to him.”
Has he talked with Amorim?
With Amorim set to take charge of the club as the new head coach once the November international break commences, there have been rumours that the pair have been in contact.
However, when asked by a journalist if Amorim would influence his tactics over the next few weeks, Van Nistelrooy replied, “Is he already announced?”
When the journalist replied that he did not know, the Dutchman continued: “So then don’t talk to somebody that’s not announced. That’s logical, in my opinion. What the future will bring, we’ll see.”
Asked if he will have a conversation with Amorim, Ruud replied: “Yeah of course. I want to help, I want to do everything I can in my abilities, as many others do in this club, to fight for this club.
“The club is in a difficult situation and it is not there where we all wanted to be but the challenge is there. That’s why I’m here. Everyone’s looking at Man United and the situation that it’s in, but it’s us as people on the floor here to do the utmost, supported by our fans. It’s a process and it’s something to work for and do everything for.”
