Trevoh Chalobah has sent his potential suitors, including Manchester United, a clear message about his future after being axed from Chelsea’s squad.

Manchester United are looking for further defensive reinforcements this summer following a season that saw Erik ten Hag‘s men concede over 80 goals across all competitions last season.

Having already bought 18-year-old defensive talent Leny Yoro from Lille earlier this window, the club are still assessing their defensive options in the transfer market, with sales needed to fund further signings.

There have been recent and growing links between Aaron Wan-Bissaka and West Ham United, with the media reporting that a potential deal at the price point of around £15-20 million is possible. However, should the English right-back be sold, further would be needed to be bought.

With the club wanting another centre-back before the start of the season, there were concrete links with Chelsea’s homegrown talent Trevoh Chalobah. He has been frozen out of the squad as the club wants to move him on this summer.

Since Chelsea’s decision to bar the player from taking part in their pre-season tour of the USA, the links between Chalobah and United have resurfaced, but the player has sent a clear message to any suitors about his future.

According to the BBC, Chalobah is “happy to wait” and take his time making a decision about his uncertain future despite Chelsea’s clear preference to sell him.

This may cause United a slight problem should they act on their interest, with the club showing that their new methodology in the window is to act quickly and decisively in order to conduct business as efficiently as possible.

Chelsea are estimated to demand a fee of around £25 million despite the player having four years left on his current deal—the same figure they accepted from Nottingham Forest for him last summer before the player himself rejected the move.

With the player having been deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, a similar situation may arise that would once again see a homegrown Chelsea talent move north to Manchester, just like Mason Mount did last summer.
