Tottenham Hotspur eyeing move for “nightmare” Manchester United forward if pending summer transfer falls through

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a move for a Manchester United forward if his move to a Premier League rival breaks down this summer.

Champions League football is often a crucial factor in a player’s decision to move during the transfer window, especially if they already play for a team in the competition.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will both miss out on the Champions League if they fail to win the Europa League, with the possibility that they could face each other in the final.

United face Athletic Club away on Thursday night in the first leg of the semi-final, while Spurs will take on FK Bodø/Glimt at home.

Several players could leave their clubs, looking to play European football in the season leading up to the 2026 World Cup.

Marcus Rashford left United in January, going on loan to Aston Villa so he could participate in the Champions League until the end of the season, although his future remains up in the air.

Tottenham interested in Rashford if Villa move breaks down

Football Insider have reported that Tottenham are eyeing a move for Rashford if his move to Aston Villa breaks down in the summer transfer window, with a permanent move to the club currently pending with Villa retaining the option to sign him for £40 million.

Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson has been speaking on the chances of the English forward moving to North London in the summer, stating that although his former club are looking into the potential purchase, Rashford is not overly convinced by the move himself.

“Tottenham are looking into what it would take to sign Rashford, but they have to make a decision about what direction they’re going in,” Robinson revealed.

“You can’t just throw a load of players in and hope it works; they need to find some stability, and I don’t think that’s what Marcus would give them.

“From what I hear, he’s not convinced by that move either. He wants to be playing Champions League football and competing at the highest level. I’m also not sure he’s going to want to take a big pay cut.”

Rashford may move abroad in the summer

At the end of the report, Robinson concluded, “So it looks like it might be difficult to do, I don’t think he’ll end up at Tottenham to be honest.”

It has been previously reported that Rashford sees Barcelona as his dream destination, and he will want to keep playing in the Champions League.

Moving abroad has seen several scrutinised United players improve drastically, with Antony and Scott McTominay being among the best players in the league since their moves away.

Leaving England allows players to play without the immense criticism and abuse that often accompanies playing at Old Trafford and other elite Premier League sides, with those such as Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham thriving on the continent.
