Three standout Man Utd players vs Wolves as U18s confirm title victory
Manchester United’s Under-18s confirmed their status as Premier League North champions after their 2-1 victory against Wolves on Tuesday afternoon.
It was a tremendous reward for Adam Lawrence’s side, who have lost just once in the league across the entire campaign.
The 2-1 win against Wolves on Tuesday was the 19th of the campaign, with United scoring their 73rd and 74th goals of the season so far. There are two remaining league games.
United’s academy side will also be looking forward to the Under-18s Premier League Cup final against Manchester City next week, as well as another cup final against the prospective Premier League South winners Chelsea.
UtdDistrict have picked out three of the top performers from the victory that secured the league title for the Under-18s side.
Gabriele Biancheri
Gabriele Biancheri has often had a difficult time finding a regular spot in Lawrence’s starting eleven this season. Yet, the no.9’s quality has never been in doubt.
His two goals were expertly taken on Tuesday afternoon, both coming deep inside the box as you’d expect from any experienced striker.
That’s how Biancheri bags a lot of his goals – he’s scored 10 in the league this season, more than any other United player – and it’s something that we rarely see at the club.
With the goals that made the difference, as well as some important and solid link-up play, it was a solid performance by the striker.
Jack Kingdon
One of the Under-18’s most important players this season, Jack Kingdon’s performances were rewarded through training with Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad last week.
The defender has picked up an excellent relationship with Louis Jackson at the back, and produced another solid performance against a Wolves side that battled well throughout the game.
Kingdon has made 15 appearances in the league for Lawrence’s side and was one of the players missing from the only defeat of the season against Manchester City.
His ball-playing, timing and defensive prowess were all important for United as they clinched the title.
James Scanlon
James Scanlon has been one of the most improved players across the season for the youth side and produced another impressive performance against Wolves.
His excellent run was found by Elyh Harrison in the first half and he calmly passed across for Biancheri for his second goal of the game and the eventual winner.
It was Scanlon’s 11th goal contribution (8g, 3a) of the season for the Under-18s in the league in just 12 appearances. He recently made his international debut for Gibraltar.
He was smart in possession, grabbed an important assist, and played a solid game overall to help the team win the title.
