One former Manchester United defender believes Erik ten Hag has a weapon to unleash against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

In their previous encounter, Manchester City emerged victorious with goals from Erling Haaland (2) and Phil Foden, securing a win over Manchester United at Old Trafford in October of the preceding year.

Erik ten Hag‘s team faced a challenging defeat of 6-3 against Pep Guardiola‘s side at the Etihad in the last season, and they aim to improve their performance this Sunday.

The geographical proximity of the two clubs, just around 4 miles apart, contrasts with their 15-point difference in the league standings. United currently holds the sixth position, while City resides in second place.

However, former United defender Mikael Silvestre belives that despite City being the clear favourite, Ten Hag does have Bruno Fernandes as one of three potential difference makers at the Etihad.

“Clearly, the odds are in favour of Manchester City. I’m not even talking about the defeat to Fulham, but with the amount of injuries, it’s a tough ask to go and do it (at the Etihad),” Silvestre told bettingexpert.

“City have lost games this season. They’re not going to lose many more, and United won’t have many chances in the game. They’ll have to take every chance that they get.

“It will be a difficult game, with a lot of defending and running after the ball. And it’s clearly in favour of the City.

“More than ever, this is going to be a collective effort to grab the three points. You expect your Rashford’s, your Bruno’s to create chances. In the decisive moments, Garnacho can step up.

“So, it’s not like the team is lacking weapons. It’s a fair fight as it’s 11v11, but right now, City are clearly more dominant than United.”
