Three reasons why Leny Yoro chose Man United over Real Madrid
Leny Yoro is closing in on becoming Manchester United’s second summer signing as he travels to Carrington for a medical.
Yoro, 18, became the priority target at centre-back for United after they reached an agreement with Lille for the defender.
However, Real Madrid were the player’s preference and the Reds had to work hard to convince him of a move.
He now looks set to become a new United player and there were several reasons why United were able to secure the young talent over the La Liga champions.
According to Ben Jacobs, the teenager appreciated how hands-on United had been in their pitch to him and his team, which included a quick agreement on a fee with Lille.
Another important step from United, according to Jacobs, was that they allowed Yoro a week to decide on his next steps after agreeing to that fee with his club. They were respectful of the fact that he wanted to talk with Madrid as well.
Thirdly, the Reds were able to overtake the Spanish giants by making it clear to Yoro that while he was not their only top centre-back target, they were prepared to move decisively for him.
INEOS have brought in a new team across the board at Old Trafford, which includes Omar Berrada as CEO, Dan Ashworth as sporting director and Jason Wilcox as technical director.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s new-look team are settling in well and have already brought in Joshua Zirkzee as a new striker signing.
Yoro could join the Reds on their pre-season tour of the United States, while Zirkzee is likely to join up with the squad mid-way through the tour after competing at Euro 2024.
United will face Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Betis while on tour.
