Another Manchester United player could be set for a move to Turkey, as suitors are now interested while the Turkish window remains open.
Now that the English transfer window is closed, Manchester United can only sell players to a select number of countries: Turkey and Greece (September 12), Serbia (September 13), and Saudi Arabia (September 23).
Andre Onana looks set to be loaned to Trabzonspor in the Turkish top flight, after falling behind Altay Bayindir and Senne Lammens in the goalkeeping pecking order.
Tyrell Malacia could be another United player to move on from Old Trafford before the end of the summer, as Rúben Amorim seems to favour Patrick Dorgu and Diego Leon over the Dutchman.
Erik ten Hag’s left-back signing was a member of the outcast squad/ and the only one to remain at the club, but Jason Wilcox will be determined to move him on before the end of every window.
While their window remains open, Turkish clubs are pursuing another out-of-favour United player, who could leave the club in the coming days.
Turkish clubs eye move for Mather
Sam Mather – a 21-year-old left-winger in the United Academy – is back at Old Trafford this summer after a loan spell in League Two for Tranmere Rovers.
While fans of the academy rate Mather, he struggled for game time in League Two and United now look set to move him on, as he will struggle to get into the United side with Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount ahead of him.
The Manchester Evening News have reported that Mather drew suitors from Germany and Sweden earlier in the summer, while Turkish clubs remain interested in securing his services with the deadline on Friday.
United are said to want a full sale, but will consider a loan with an obligation to buy if no other offers come calling for the winger.
Mather – who can also play as an attacking midfielder – looked promising for United’s youth sides, but a permanent move away may be his best option to reach his full potential.
United prioritise Scanlon’s development
James Scanlon – another hybrid left-winger/attacking midfielder – has rivalled Mather in the past in the under-21s, but looks set to be first-choice for Travis Binnion’s youth team if Mather does leave.
The Gibraltar international has already trained with United’s first team, and has a brilliant eye for goal that could lead many to mistake him for a centre forward.
With Mather now set to leave the club, Scanlon will be the next academy star in line for a first-team debut in the attacking areas, especially on the left side.
Cunha and Mount could both miss the Manchester derby on Sunday, so Scanlon could even feature on the bench as early as this weekend.
