“They haven’t done…” Jack Grealish’s bold claim about Man United compared to Man City
Manchester City star Jack Grealish has pointed out one massive difference between one of Manchester United’s greatest-ever teams and the current City squad.
Grealish, 28, has been a regular part of the Manchester City team since signing for the club in 2021 for a British transfer record-breaking move of over £100 million.
But just a year before that move, Grealish had looked set to sign for City’s rivals Manchester United, and the Englishman has since admitted that he was “really close” to joining Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s squad.

Despite never becoming a United player, Grealish still knows some of the club’s history. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, the winger stated one of the key differences between his City team and one of United’s best ever.
Discussing last season, where City lifted the FA Cup, Champions League and Premier League, Grealish pointed out how several great teams have failed to complete a treble, including United’s exceptional side of the mid-2000s.
“I’ve said in a lot of interviews that, for me, the team I’m in now and especially last year, it’s just unbelievable, the togetherness we have,” Grealish explained. “Over the years, there have been so many top teams in the Premier League that haven’t done what we’ve done.
“Even (Manchester) City’s team in 2018/19, with David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne and Man United’s team in 2008/09, with Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez – none of these teams won the treble.
“That says something about our team because you can have all of the talent in the world, but you need to have the other side of it as well, like that togetherness of the pitch. That’s something we had so much of, and we’ve got it this season as well.”
As Grealish pointed out, United were unable to complete a treble throughout the 2000s, coming close on three occasions before falling short.
Though that side was unable to complete a treble, United were famously the first team to achieve a treble-winning season in the Premier League era, thanks to the efforts of the squad throughout the 1998/99 season.
