“There will be movements…” Fabrizio Romano says Man Utd star is likely to leave this summer

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that one Manchester United player looks destined to depart Old Trafford in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Manchester United are almost certainly going to see plenty of comings and goings in their next transfer window, which staff and players will stay and which will leave is still up in the air.

This could be a result of Michael Carrick assuming an interim role at the club, which has caused uncertainty about which personnel will be managing and playing for the team at the beginning of next season.

Plenty of players were linked with a move away from Old Trafford during the poor run of form over the Christmas period, but now that the side is settled and performing, players like Kobbie Mainoo seem to have cemented their position in the club for next season.

However, the majority of the fanbase agrees that for certain players, it is clear their careers in Manchester are coming to a close. One player in particular has been linked with several clubs and seems set to depart when the window opens.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Joshua Zirkzee is set to depart in summer

Joshua Zirkzee is a player that splits opinions thoughout the United fanbase, but it is generally agreed upon that the Dutchman has never really found his feet, despite showing glimpses of quality that made him such an exciting prospect in Italy.

This season, Zirkzee has struggled for minutes, which is not a surprise after the arrival of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo sent Zirkzee down the ranks in the pecking order of attackers. It is also not a shock that Fabrizio Romano revealed that the 24-year-old is likely to leave the club at the end of the season.

Speaking on his Youtube channel, Romano stated: “I think for Joshua Zirkzee there will be movements in the summer with several clubs showing interest in the player who is being super professional.

“He’s showing his commitment to Man Utd until the very end of the season, even if he’s not playing much.

“Then, at the end of the season, it will probably be time to try play more, find more game time.”

Juventus seems the club currently favoured to sign the striker, but with a long stretch of time and a lot of football to be played in both Serie A and the Premier League, the transfer story still has many twists and turns ahead.

What went wrong for Joshua Zirkzee

Joshua Zirkzee arrived from Bologna with bags of potential and plenty of hype, but has never reached the lofty heights that were set for him by pundits and fans. He is a physical player and seemed the ideal player for United in 2024.

The arrivals of Mbuemo, Cunha and Benjamin Sesko display that the higher-ups at United did not believe that Zirkzee was the attacker to take United forward going into this season, which has left the Dutch international only playing 529 minutes across all competitions this campaign.

It is another case of an attacker who has arrived at United and failed to live up to expectations, a worrying trend that has occurred numerous times over the last decade.

Manchester United’s inability to develop exciting youngsters is something that INEOS must look to improve going forward, whether that be signing different types of players or bringing in a manager who focuses on youth.
