Ruben Amorim has been praised for by Ben Foster his “beautiful” Manchester United transfer target, as he “could start for any Premier League team”.
Manchester United have made just four signings in Rúben Amorim’s short time at the club, with two first-teamers joining in January and two players ready to join the club next season.
Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu joined United from Lecce in the January transfer window, immediately becoming Amorim’s starting left wing back due to the injuries to Luke Shaw and later Diogo Dalot.
The recruitment team, now led by Jason Wilcox, also brought in Ayden Heaven from Arsenal in January. Heaven joined for just £1 million and he has already asserted himself into the first team, playing alongside Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro in Amorim’s back three.
Diego Leon’s transfer from Paraguay was also confirmed in January, but the then 17-year-old couldn’t yet join the club because he wasn’t old enough; Leon will become eligible for United from the summer, likely heading on the pre-season tour.
Most recently, Matheus Cunha joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million, a transfer that could take the club back to the top half of the Premier League, due to his individual brilliance at times last season.
Foster names Mbeumo as “beautiful” signing
Speaking on his YouTube channel, former Sir Alex Ferguson player Ben Foster explained why he believed that Bryan Mbeumo would be a great signing for Amorim’s side.
“Do you know what the beauty of Bryan Mbeumo is, right?” said the former goalkeeper: “Nobody here would question him at all. I’m not questioning Bryan Mbeumo about his ability, about his mentality, about what he is as a person.”
“I’ve got no worries. There is nothing to show me I should have any worries about him. Whoever he goes and plays for, I think he would improve. I think he gets into the starting lineup.”
Foster added: “He’s got a proven record of being fit and scoring goals. He could get into, I’m not joking, pretty much all 20 Premier League teams, and I think he starts. That’s how good I think Mbeumo is.”
Mbeumo would likely play on the right of Amorim’s front three, with Cunha playing on the left side and Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee playing down the middle, if United don’t sign a new striker.
United must not lose their transfer pull
Despite missing out on Champions League football because of the disappointing loss in the Europa League final, United have already signed Cunha and could be signing Mbeumo, two of the Premier League’s most exciting players.
Newcastle United were reportedly favourites to sign Mbeumo, but his preference to join United means that they have dropped out of the race for the winger.
The Red Devils will forever have the transfer pull ahead of clubs like Newcastle because of the history of the team: from heartbreak to comeback, United is truly like no other club.
However, form on the pitch needs to improve if great players are to continue to play at Old Trafford because history can’t win you trophies in the present day.
