Southampton’s true price tag for Tyler Dibling after £100m report emerges, Man Utd’s stance remains clear

Manchester United are interested in signing Tyler Dibling from Southampton in the summer but a wild report emerged this week claiming he could cost over £100 million.

Ruben Amorim is in desperate need of improving his squad at Manchester United ahead of his first full season in charge of the club.

It will be Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell who lead the way in terms of the recruitment for the Old Trafford outfit and they are already getting started on their work.

Various players have been linked with a move to United already and reports have explained that the Reds have several priority positions they’d like to strengthen in.

One of those positions is in the duel no.10 role, with there being limited options in those positions at the moment, especially since Bruno Fernandes is operating slightly deeper instead.

Southampton’s true Dibling price emerges

Tyler Dibling of Southampton has been very impressive in the Premier League this season and the teenager has emerged as a target for the Reds.

It has been reported that United scouts are excited about Dibling’s ability to drive with the ball at his feet, which is something not many players in Amorim’s squad excel at.

However, any potential move seemed dead in the water after the Telegraph reported earlier this week that the Championship-bound team will be demanding over £100 million for Dibling’s services.

Despite looking like a bright prospect, the 19-year-old has only scored twice in the Premier League this season and is not worth such a price.

Following on from this, though, TeamTalk have stated that Southampton’s actual price tag for Dibling in the summer is lower than that amount.

They claim that, privately, the Saints would be likely to accept an offer which is closer to £60 million for their star youngster when the season ends.

United’s stance on Dibling should be clear after Amorim’s comments

Whether at £100 million or £60 million, Dibling’s price seems like something that United should be avoiding this summer.

There are plenty of exciting players in that position across Europe and the Reds would likely be able to get a better deal, allowing them to also focus cash elsewhere in the squad.

Dibling is a talented player but there are no guarantees that he will improve to the levels that justify such a hefty price tag. It feels like a similar story to the likes of Rasmus Højlund or Antony.

Amorim has already explained how he wants United to avoid mistakes of the past in terms of recruitment and this could be one of the first major tests.

“The recruitment I think is crucial,” Amorim said last month. “We need to improve the team. We need to perform better, we need to be in Europe and not in our position during the season.

“We have an idea. For me as a coach, we need to be a better team and to recruit better and don’t make a lot of mistakes in that department.”
