With the ever-lasting Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United saga, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made his beliefs clear, with Brentford’s latest stance revealed.
Manchester United’s summer transfer window got off to the ideal start when they acquired the services of Wolves’ Matheus Cunha for a whopping £62.5million.
It was thought that Ruben Amorim’s summer window would continue in the same vein with rumours heating up left, right and centre, but this hasn’t proven the case.
The Red Devils’ interest in Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo was announced two months ago, with negotiations now surpassing the six-week mark, and yet there is still no conclusion in sight.
Personal terms are thought to be a formality, but the two sides seem to be holding firm on their valuations, which currently sit a small distance apart. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s beliefs on the matter have now been made clear.
Ratcliffe’s beliefs on Mbeumo fee
As reported by The Guardian, via ManUtdNews, it has been revealed that Brentford have ‘changed their stance’, raising their valuation to a fee in the region of £70million.
Ratcliffe and Jason Wilcox, however, believe that a £65million package would be enough to seal the deal, and Brentford had also “privately indicated that a medical was expected imminently”.
United’s higher-ups are determined to make this deal happen, but they are refusing to be held ransom. The are sticking to their guns and remaining patient despite it potentially hindering progress elsewhere.
Mbeumo’s current contract expires next summer with the Bees, but they do have the option to extend it by a further year.
Should pride be pushed aside for United?
It is obvious that in recent years, United have paid some extortionate fees for signings that have ended up being deemed as unwise business, and they seem desperate to avoid repeating past mistakes.
This being said, this summer transfer window presents United with the perfect opportunity to rebuild their squad and climb the Premier League table – a feat that will be far harder to achieve if they don’t get their business done before the season gets underway.
With the two sides’ valuations being only £5million apart, now might be the time for the Red Devils to swallow their pride and cough up the additional few million in order to have the prolific Cameroonian amongst their ranks in time for their pre-season tour.
Hopefully for United fans, this saga will come to a favourable end soon, but it will be interesting to see whether Ratcliffe and his team bite the bullet or hold out for a better price.
