Serie A clubs “closely monitoring” Manchester United “flop” after 0 minutes against Sunderland

AC Milan, Como and Juventus are monitoring a Manchester United forward, despite a lack of minutes so far this season.

Manchester United finally put in another impressive performance against Sunderland, with a comfortable 2-0 win against the newly promoted Premier League side.

Goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Šeško in the opening 31 minutes forced Regis Le Bris to replace a natural left-winger – Simon Adingra – for a central defender and revert to a back five formation.

Sunderland couldn’t handle United’s free-flowing attacks, which stemmed from combinations between Amad and Bryan Mbeumo.

Despite the positives from a comfortable win, some United fans remain concerned due to the treatment of certain players. Kobbie Mainoo remained on the bench, joining the action in the 77th minute, allowing Bruno Fernandes to push into the attack.

Diogo Dalot remained in the starting side despite recent poor performances, with Patrick Dorgu forced into a cameo from the bench. Another United star who started on the bench may be looking for a move after a lack of minutes this season.

Italian clubs remain interested in Zirkzee

With Rasmus Hojlund leaving for Napoli in the summer, Joshua Zirkzee was the only senior replacement for Šeško. However, Matheus Cunha has started as a centre forward this season, and Zirkzee has struggled for minutes, with none against Sunderland.

Tutto Juve – who have branded Zirkzee as a “complete flop” for United – have reported that AC Milan and Juventus are “closely monitoring” the Dutchman’s situation, due to his form for Bologna before signing for United.

Como are also interested in Zirkzee, but would be more likely to consider a loan move, rather than a permanent transfer. This could suit United, as the Dutchman would be a versatile option in the squad next season, when United will be hoping they are back in European football.

United are yet to communicate with any club if they are interested in completing a deal, but Juventus could offer Dusan Vlahovic in a swap deal for the former Bayern Munich centre forward.

United must keep hold of Zirkzee

While Zirkzee isn’t a key member of the squad this season, he would play an important role if United return to the Europa League or Champions League next season.

The Dutchman’s versatility means he can play as a centre forward or as an attacking midfielder in Amorim’s system. He proved last season that he can be a vital asset in both positions; he just needs to stay injury-free.

Zirkzee could also help Chido Obi transition into the first team, as he could vacate the backup striker role for the young Dane, while still playing as a No.10. His love for the club is clear for all to see, and his character is strong.

Signing another centre forward should be the least of Amorim’s concerns while Zirkzee remains at the club, he can instead focus on signing a new central midfielder to replace Casemiro.
