Manchester United are set to sign a new goalkeeper this summer amid speculation surrounding André Onana’s long-term future.
Manchester United are close to securing the signing of 23-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens as they refresh their options between the posts.
Tom Heaton has committed to another year at the club, while André Onana is expected to remain first choice heading into the new season.
Lammens’ arrival is likely to spell the end for Altay Bayındır, whose mistake against Arsenal last weekend has added further uncertainty to his position.
The Royal Antwerp goalkeeper is highly rated across Europe and is set to start as Onana’s understudy, with hopes of pushing for the starting role as the campaign progresses.
Lammens transfer set to be official imminenantly
While reports earlier this week detailed that United were not looking to sign a new goalkeeper as a priority, their stance on this quickly changed after they made contact surrounding the signing of Lammens on Thursday afternoon.
By Friday, it became clear that, despite interest from Manchester City and Inter Milan, Old Trafford was Lammens’ desired destination, with the player “excited and intrigued” at the thought of joining the Reds.
According to The Guardian, Lammens will miss Antwerp’s Sunday midday fixture against Mechelen, with his move to England drawing closer.
Further, it’s reported that United expect the move to become official “imminently”. As far as a fee, The Guardian state it’s around £17 million, although other reports have the general fee at around £16 million plus add-ons.
Lammens expected wages at United
As with every new signing, it’s always a matter of intrigue for fans to know the wages United pay their new faces each summer.

Recently, the club has adopted a strict policy of reducing their wage bill, with players such as Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo being offered contracts that are more reasonable than those that would have been provided before the policy change.
According to The Guardian, current second-choice Altay Bayındır is earning around £80,000 a week at Old Trafford, and it’s stated that Lammens should therefore expect a contract of a similar amount.
It’s expected that Lammens will compete with Onana for the first-team goalkeeper spot once he arrives, which may signal the end of Bayındır’s career at Old Trafford.
