“Scared…” – Gary Neville sends brutal dig to Ruben Amorim after Manchester United sack

Gary Neville has sent a clear dig to Ruben Amorim after he was sacked by Manchester United as head coach earlier this week.

Manchester United made the decision to dismiss Ruben Amorim earlier this week following his press conference outburst after the draw with Leeds.

However, it later emerged that the choice had effectively already been made prior to that match, in the wake of a heated and confrontational meeting between Amorim and Jason Wilcox.

The club are now searching for a caretaker manager to see out the remainder of the season, while also beginning the process of identifying the right long-term successor once the campaign concludes.

Opting for a temporary appointment is seen as a deliberate move, allowing United the time and space to ensure they do not repeat past mistakes when naming their next permanent head coach.

What Amorim said about Neville

No matter who comes through the door next, you can almost guarantee that they will not be as honest as Amorim was in the press conference room.

The Portuguese head coach made problems for himself with his comments to the media and one of the things he regularly mentioned was the role of ex-United players as pundits.

In his final ever press conference last week, Amorim name-dropped Gary Neville and stated that the club must change if people inside are paying attention to his criticisms.

“If people cannot handle the Gary Nevilles and the critics of everything, we need to change the club,” the ex-United boss said.

Many fans agree with the sentiment from the former coach and do not like how ex-United players dominate the media with negativity.

Neville sends brutal dig to Amorim

Neville responded to Amorim’s comments earlier this week. “That’s a thing managers tend to do in difficult periods, they tend to have a go at pundits,” he said.

But now, the ex-United defender has sent a clear dig to the sacked head coach during his latest podcast on Sky Sports.

When speaking about potential permanent United managers, Neville suggested that Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti should be considered.

He stated that neither of those managers would be ‘scared’ of what pundits have to say; a clear dig at how Amorim disliked his comments.

“You’re looking at [Carlo] Ancelotti and [Thomas] Tuchel,” Neville said. “They’ve been in England, won leagues, won the Champions League and managed big players. They won’t get a bit scared if a pundit says something.”
