Ryan Giggs reveals two Manchester United legends he “never thought you’d lose” with under Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has revealed two fellow legends that he “never thought you’d lose” with under Sir Alex Ferguson

Since the time of Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United have been on a steep decline, not even coming close to winning another Premier League, despite two second-place finishes under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, let’s forget the difficulties of the last 12 years and look back on the good old days when United competed for the league every season, without fail.

At the heart of the success was Ryan Giggs. A man who is a legend in his own right, winning 13 Premier Leagues and two Champions Leagues, but also a man who played with some of the best players the club and England have ever seen.

Giggs came into the team in 1991, playing with greats like Steve Bruce and Lee Sharpe, even alongside his fellow countryman Mark Hughes on his return from Barcelona.

His final season, while in a very poor United team, saw Giggs take control of the team in a player/manager role, taking over from David Moyes in the final games of the end of the 2013/14 campaign.

Giggs speaks on glory days under Ferguson

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand on the Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube Channel, the Red Devils legend has now had his say on his time at United, naming two players he “never thought you’d lose” with.

“Bryan Robson, coming towards the end of his career obviously, [but in] my first full season, every game that Bryan Robson started, you never thought you’re gonna get beat,” he said.

“He commanded that respect with us and with the opposition, and it was like, ‘Oh, I haven’t seen this before,’ and you just go out.

Roy [Keane] later had that impact where if he started a game, you didn’t think [you’d lose].

“Of course we lost, of course we did, but you didn’t think you were gonna because you had that power, that aggression, that leadership in the team.”

United missing power, aggression and leadership

Ruben Amorim will continue to struggle at United until he regains the qualities that Giggs spoke about; he needs “that power, that aggression, that leadership in the team.”

Only Bruno Fernandes can be associated with those three qualities, but the Red Devils need a full squad of players who have those characteristics.

The potential signing of Matheus Cunha represents another player who can be considered powerful, aggressive and a leader.

While he has perhaps shown too much aggression on multiple occasions this season, Cunha has dragged Wolves through games, much like how Fernandes has for United.
