Ruud van Nistelrooy addresses Leicester City transfer plans amid three rumoured Man Utd moves
Ruud van Nistelrooy joined Leicester City as manager and is attempting to save the club from the relegation zone in the Premier League.
Ruud van Nistelrooy left Manchester United in November, just five months after re-joining the club, as Ruben Amorim stepped in as new head coach.
The Dutchman joined in July as part of a major restructuring of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff. However, his role came into question after Ten Hag’s dismissal last month.
In his brief stint as interim manager, Van Nistelrooy managed four games, securing wins against Leicester City and PAOK, along with a Premier League draw against Chelsea.
After it was decided that he would not be part of Amorim’s coaching staff, Van Nistelrooy quickly made the decision to join Leicester City as manager.
Van Nistelrooy has won once, drawn once and lost twice in his opening four games, and the Foxes are currently two points above the drop zone, with changes needed in order to avoid relegation.
Van Nistelrooy addresses Leicester transfer plans
Van Nistelrooy was asked by journalists whether the January transfer window will be important for his team’s efforts for the remainder of the season.
The former United striker and coach explained that he is seeing positives from his team despite recent results, but added that he will be assessing what is needed in the window.
“Of course, the game we played there were three incidents where we lose the game. Look at the rest of the game, there were things visible that we want to develop,” he began.
“We can acknowledge that and build on that so we do not lose sight of that. That evaluation is very important.
“As I said before, in the January window we’ll assess and see what is necessary.”
Three rumoured moves for United stars
It was entirely expected that the Foxes would be linked with some United players and youngsters once Van Nistelrooy was hired.
Toby Collyer has been rumoured to be an option on a loan move in January as he is not getting many first team minutes at Old Trafford, with Van Nistelrooy said to be ‘keen’ about’ a deal.
Meanwhile, the Leicester boss is also looking to improve the defensive situation at the King Power Stadium, with Victor Lindelöf linked with a move as United aim to sell him before the defender leaves for free at the end of the season.
Thirdly, it has been explained by the Athletic that Van Nistelrooy ‘admired’ Harry Maguire during his time at Old Trafford, which makes a potential move back to his former club a possibility.
However, any deal makes little sense for both parties as it is unlikely that Leicester will pay a substantial fee for a player with a contract running out in six months. But Maguire would not agree to move to a club that he doesn’t know whether they will be in the top flight by the time he joins.
Lindelöf and Collyer seem like the more likely options for Van Nistelrooy and Leicester in the coming month.
