Ruben Amorim is ‘weighing up ‘ two important changes to Manchester United’s starting XI to face Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend.

Ruben Amorim is preparing Manchester United for a pivotal Premier League derby against Manchester City, a key challenge in the early stages of his tenure as head coach.

United approach the clash fresh from a 2-1 comeback victory over Viktoria Plzeň in the Europa League, where substitute Rasmus Højlund scored both goals to secure the win.

On the other hand, Pep Guardiola’s side are enduring a tough spell, with just one win in their last ten matches across all competitions.

Notably, Amorim’s Sporting dealt City a humiliating 4-1 defeat in the Champions League earlier this season, prior to his arrival at Old Trafford.

Now, the Portuguese manager aims to capitalise on City’s vulnerability and secure a crucial derby victory for United, who are in dire need of points to climb the Premier League table.

Amorim ‘weighing up’ two changes for Manchester Derby

According to a new report from GiveMeSport, the United boss is ‘weighing up’ whether to start Mason Mount against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Mount came off the bench against Viktoria Plzeň in the Europa League and helped spark a comeback. His energy in the final third was very useful and he came close to scoring twice.

The report explains that Mount is impressing Amorim with his work behind-the-scenes and he will be in contention to start at the Etihad Stadium.

It was also mentioned that the 39-year-old will likely move Amad Diallo back to right wingback for the clash.

Amad started as one of the two no.10s on Thursday after several games at wingback. He impressed once again but Amorim likes the balance he provides on the flank at the moment.

Mount needs to prove himself

Mount has been keeping himself fit in recent weeks, which is important for a player who has missed so much football in recent years.

It is clear that he offers a lot of good things that Amorim likes, but playing in that front three also means that he has to produce in the final third.

He has just one goal and one assist for the club since his arrival in the summer of 2023 which simply isn’t good enough.

If he is trusted by Amorim going forward, Mount must start providing more in the final third like he did during his time at Chelsea.

Getting on the scoresheet against United’s arch rivals would be the perfect start towards that, but it is certainly easier said than done.
