Rúben Amorim warned exiled player is “going to haunt” Manchester United next season, Premier League rival move possible

Manchester United have been warned that one of their exiled players may haunt Rúben Amorim next summer, with a Premier League move possible.

Alejandro Garnacho looks almost destined for a move away from Old Trafford this summer, after his reaction in the post-match interviews of the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, in which the Argentine appeared off the bench.

After the game, Garnacho criticised Rúben Amorim for choosing Mason Mount over him, despite his performances earlier in the competition, when Mount was out injured.

The Manchester United manager delivered a 12-word message to Garnacho before the last game of the season against Aston Villa, in which he made it clear he wanted the 21-year-old to leave Old Trafford.

Garnacho has been granted extra time away from the squad despite the start of pre-season to finalise a move away from United, with the player preferring to stay in the Premier League amid interest from Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Garnacho needs to improve offensively

Former United winger Lee Sharpe, who won three Premier League titles and two FA Cups during his time at Old Trafford, has spoken about Garnacho’s current abilities and future potential.

“Garnacho has a lot of potential,” said Sharpe. “And on his day, he can win you a match, but for the ability he’s got, he’s not doing enough right now.”

Sharpe, a dynamic winger, later spoke about what Garnacho needs to do to become a better attacker, drawing on his own experience under Sir Alex Ferguson.

“His decision-making and final ball in the last third are questionable. I’m not sure he’s learning that side of the game as quickly as he needs to.

He’s improved defensively and works harder, which might be affecting his attacking output. But he’s not scoring or creating enough.”

Garnacho transfer could haunt United

The former United winger also spoke on what Garnacho’s move away from the club could mean for United, it could haunt Amorim in the years to come.

“There have been questions about his attitude on more than one occasion. I don’t know him personally, but reports suggest his discipline hasn’t been great, and he thinks he deserves more minutes. I understand why the manager might leave him on the bench.

“It’s all gone a bit public, and it seems personal now with the manager. So it looks like he’s heading for the exit.

“I can see why he wants to stay in the Premier League. It’s the most exciting league with the biggest wages and the biggest stage. He’s definitely someone who could leave United and hurt them in the future.”

Lee Sharpe was speaking to Ace Odds.
