Ruben Amorim has been told that one Manchester United star brings the ‘most important’ attribute and he has asked for exactly that.

Ruben Amorim began his tenure as Manchester United’s head coach on Monday afternoon, arriving at Old Trafford’s Carrington training ground.

He was welcomed by the club’s senior football operations team, including Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox, and Dan Ashworth.

With his Premier League debut against Ipswich Town in two weeks, Amorim has critical preparation time to work with the squad.

The 39-year-old has reportedly been asking for players with the right ‘intensity’ for his playstyle.

One player who could offer that is Mason Mount, who has struggled with injuries since arriving at Old Trafford in the summer of 2023.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been one of United’s best players out of possession when he’s been on the pitch and seems to have the right energy and attitude Amorim desires. Reports have suggested that the new head coach is planning for Mount to be a key player in his team.

Thomas Tuchel also holds a strong opinion of Mount, who he coached during his time at Chelsea. In a 3-4-3 system, Mount excelled in a Champions League winning side.

The German manager, currently in charge of the England national team, has spoken highly of Mount’s mentality and physical attributes.

“It’s not a statistic which guarantees you to start because this would be too easy,” said Tuchel of Mount’s mentality during his time at Stamford Bridge.

“But it is something we are aware of and we will not deny that having Mason brings a certain attitude and an aura and a mentality on the field. It is very hard to drop him because even if he has a not so good game, you’ll always get full energy and positivity and a wonderful approach.

“He has the full package, mentally, in terms of talent and physically and the most important part is his character, he has his feet on the ground and he’s a nice guy.

“He comes to Cobham every day to learn something new and have new experiences. He has big self confidence in a very, very positive way.

“It’s a pleasure to have him, be at his side and guide him and support him. It’s impressive, he’s not affected by all the praise. This is maybe the most important part. He seems to be a guy who likes the sport, and feels an obligation to make the most out of it and he wants it absolutely badly, so it’s a top mix.”

Of course, Mount’s most important task is to stay fit after having several injuries since he joined the club. However, if he can do that, Amorim could have a player who fits exactly what he wants from the team.
