Ruben Amorim set to give ‘key role’ to surprise Man United player in 3-4-3 formation
Ruben Amorim is set to give one surprise Manchester United player a ‘key role’ in the new 3-4-3 formation he will implement at the club.
Ruben Amorim arrived at Manchester United on Monday afternoon to begin his role as head coach at Old Trafford.
Upon arrival at the Carrington training complex, he was welcomed by Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox, and Dan Ashworth, who oversee the club’s football operations.
The former Sporting manager is expected to make many changes at United and every player will likely have a clean slate to prove their worth to him.
According to a new report from The Sun, the 39-year-old head coach is planning to give Mason Mount a key role in his team at Old Trafford.
It was claimed that Amorim is believed to be a fan of Mount’s qualities and versatility and believes he will fit well into the new system introduced.
Mount had his best spells of football playing under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea in a similar formation, where he played as one of the two players behind the no.9.
He had a key role for The Blues as they won the Champions League in this shape during the 2020/21 campaign.
The report added that Mount is pushing hard to get a start in the team for Amorim’s first game against Ipswich Town once the international break is over.
Yet, the 25-year-old will clearly need to prove his fitness levels to the new boss firstly, with injuries being his main issue at United thus far.
Mount joined United from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 in a surprise £50 million move but he has failed to have a significant impact since then.
The English midfielder has started just 11 times since he signed for the club, with multiple injury issues interrupting any form of progress.
When he has been on the pitch, Mount has looked like he could be a useful player. With Amorim potentially taking a liking to his playstyle, the 25-year-old must ensure he can stay fit going forward.
