Ruben Amorim tipped to ‘accept transfer offer’ for Manchester United star he once called “perfect”

Rúben Amorim has been tipped to accept a transfer offer for Mason Mount despite labelling the Manchester United star as “perfect.”

Mason Mount’s future at Manchester United is in doubt as the club prepares for a potential summer clear-out. Despite manager Ruben Amorim once describing the midfielder as “perfect,” the Red Devils are now ready to accept offers for the 26-year-old, according to former chief scout Mick Brown.

Mount, who joined United from Chelsea in 2023, endured an injury-hit campaign and made only 11 starts across all competitions. With Matheus Cunha already through the door and United closing in on a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Mount is expected to fall further down the pecking order.

In an exclusive interview with FootballInsider, Brown revealed that Amorim no longer sees Mount as part of his long-term plans at Old Trafford, opening the door for a summer departure.

“There is a possibility Mason Mount is sold,” Brown explained. “They’ve got Cunha and probably Mbeumo coming in to play in the positions he was being used in, so that is a sign of where he ranks in the squad.

“It’s a shame he’s had these injuries since he arrived from Chelsea, because there is a top player in there. United just feel they can improve in that position,n and that may mean moving him on.”

Mount to make way as United reshape attacking midfield

Mount’s potential exit would be part of a wider overhaul under Amorim, with several high-profile players, including Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho, also linked with moves away. The reshuffle is aimed at freeing up space and improving squad depth ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

While Amorim has publicly praised Mount in the past, once calling him a perfect player for his system, it appears that ongoing fitness issues and tactical shifts have changed the manager’s stance.

The potential arrival of Mbeumo, who Brown claims United are “edging closer” to signing, could spell the end of Mount’s time in Manchester. The former Chelsea star’s versatility was seen as an asset, but with new signings expected to take up similar roles, his future looks increasingly uncertain.

United fans will now be watching closely to see if a suitable offer materialises, as the club looks to streamline its squad and back Amorim’s vision for success.

United need to reassess their striker targets

United’s search for a new striker has faced several setbacks. Liam Delap, once on their radar, joined Chelsea earlier this month. Meanwhile, a deal for Viktor Gyökeres has stalled due to contract issues at Sporting Lisbon.

The club also hasn’t made progress on a potential move for Napoli star Victor Osimhen. Despite strong early links, that deal has not been pursued further.

Now, United are turning their attention to Juventus striker Dušan Vlahović. According to reports elsehwere, his camp has already approached the club to open talks.

Vlahović is keen on a Premier League move and sees United as an ideal next step. He’s entering the final year of his deal and earns £320,000 per week.

Juventus are reportedly open to selling to ease their wage bill. The 25-year-old is available for around £38 million — a price that suits United’s tight summer budget.

As INEOS looks to reshape the squad under Ruben Amorim, Vlahović could emerge as the leading choice to fill the striker role.
