Rúben Amorim and Ruud van Nistelrooy ‘meeting’ details revealed as Manchester United exit confirmed
Further light on Ruud van Nistelrooy’s departure from Manchester United has been shed as Rúben Amorim axes the former club coach.
On Monday morning, Manchester United confirmed that Ruud van Nistelrooy had left the club with immediate effect following the appointment of Rúben Amorim as the new head coach.
Van Nistelrooy took interim charge of United’s side following the sacking of former manager Erik ten Hag last month. He was in charge of the side for four games.
Three wins, two against Leicester City and one against PAOK, and a Premier League draw against Cheslea led to fans hoping the Dutchman would stay, but as Amorim touched down in Manchester, the opposite was confirmed.
Amorim is still waiting for his United Kingdom work permit to be processed and finalised before he can begin officially training the squad – this is expected to take at least another 24-48 hours.
Amorim and Van Nistelrooy’s meeting details
Although many expected that Amorim and Van Nistelrooy would sit down and discuss if there is a role for the Dutchman at the club, it has been confirmed that this was not the case.
According to The Athletic, if the pair did meet, it was not face-to-face, as Van Nistelrooy was spotted leaving Carrington at midday, while Amorim did not touch down at Manchester Airport until several hours later.
Therefore, Amorim arrived at Carrington a few hours after Van Nistelrooy left. Although the report does not confirm this, it suggests that Van Nistelrooy had been informed that he would not continue at the club earlier on Monday, before Amorim’s arrival.
The Athletic does state that it was Amorim’s decision to keep or let go of Van Nistelrooy, as United wanted to offer him the chance to have a completely clean slate upon his arrival.
Three other coaches left, one has stayed
Along with Van Nistelrooy, three of Ten Hag’s other former staff, Rene Hake, goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and analyst Pieter Morel, have all departed the club.
However, it is also stated in The Athletic’s piece that Darren Fletcher, the former technical director who has become integrated within the first-team coaching set-up, has remained at the club.
Fletcher is seen as a vital connection between the club’s Academy and first-team, a position that Amorim will no doubt find useful over the coming months as he builds dossiers on his first-team players and those in the Academy.
