Rúben Amorim establishes club role for ex-Manchester United player as meetings continue
Rúben Amorim has established a role for one former Manchester United player working at the club as his meetings with key football staff continue.
Rúben Amorim is set to kick off his tenure as Manchester United’s head coach this week, arriving at Carrington on Monday morning. He steps in following the club’s recent decision to part ways with Erik ten Hag.
The 39-year-old coach has already begun making impactful changes, dismissing Ruud van Nistelrooy and three other members of the coaching staff upon his arrival.

Amorim plans to spend the next two weeks evaluating his new squad to determine his first-choice lineup. His debut match will be an away fixture against Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
He has hinted that he’ll immediately bring in his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, stirring anticipation over who will fit into his system.
More meetings on Tuesday
Following meetings with significant figures such as Van Nistelrooy and the current coaching staff at the club on Monday, which led to their exits, Amorim will continue to do so in the coming days.
According to Sky Sports, Amorim will continue to meet with key football staff at the club as he learns about United’s Carrington facilities, which are currently undergoing redevelopment.
One of these key men is Darren Fletcher, a former United midfielder who used to play under Sir Alex Ferguson and, until the arrival of Jason Wilcox, used to be the club’s technical director.
According to The Athletic, Fletcher is set to stay at the club following Amorim’s arrival and will be a link between the first team and the academy.
Amorim is known to take a keen interest in any club’s academy, so Fletcher will certainly play a significant role under Amorim as Carrington’s finest make bids to break into the first-team squad over the next few seasons.
Fletcher is currently serving a three-match touchline ban from the Premier League after reacting to a decision to force Matthijs de Ligt off as Brentford scored at Old Trafford earlier this month. United have appealed.
However, typically, Fletcher is seen on the touchline among the coaching staff, and it remains to be seen if he will continue to do so under Amorim once his ban is lifted.
