Rúben Amorim must listen to Ruud van Nistelrooy on undroppable Manchester United duo
Once he joins the club, Rúben Amorim must listen to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s advice surrounding an undroppable Manchester United duo.
Rúben Amorim will have two weeks to understand his new players once the 39-year-old arrives as Manchester United‘s new head coach.
The former Sporting boss is flying to Manchester on Monday to commence his work at the club before his work visa is finalised and he’s allowed to conduct training, which is set to happen later this week.

Although multiple first-team players will embark on national team duty this week, they will return to the club by Thursday at the latest. In the meantime, Amorim can work with a few other first-team players recovering from injuries at the club.
With the selection of his first XI just under two weeks away when the club take on Amorim, many are keen to see who the Portuguese manager will pick.
Van Nistelrooy’s advice
Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has been acting as the interim coach for the past two weeks, has started Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte in all four of his games and explained that the undroppable pair are two players he likes to use in midfield.
“Yeah, I like to go with them,” he explained on the pair last week when former United midfielder Paul Scholes asked ahead of the win against PAOK.
“They can communicate very well together. What’s important for them is that they look for the moment to press. I think we don’t have the midfield that you can go 90 minutes 1v1 all over the place, and long balls, second balls, coming back.
“So they are in control of the moments that we press. I think it’s for their types and their profiles it suits them. And they’re doing really well and we benefit from it, I think.”
Amorim should listen
This is advice that Amorim should listen to. After a poor start to the season, Ugarte, in particular, has become an immense player in recent weeks as he settles into life at his new club.
Casemiro has also been one of the best players at the club in the last two months, establishing himself as a fantastic midfield option after a poor 2023/24 campaign.
Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation often heavily relies on two midfielders who can sit and defend their back line, so keeping Casemiro and Ugarte in the XI is a piece of advice that will help the new head coach embed his footballing philosophy into the squad as fast at a rapid speed.
“I know how I am going to play in the beginning because you have to start with a structure that you know,” he told reporters on Sunday evening.
“Then you will adapt with the players that you have, some injuries, or no injuries, what kind of players have the abilities to defend, attack, I will discover that in the next few weeks.
“We don’t have a lot of time to train, so I have to show something that I know very well. You can take whatever you want from that.”
