Sources: Rúben Amorim “happy” and “willing to work” with three Manchester United stars, but wants further signing
Contrary to reports, Rúben Amorim is happy to work with three of his Manchester United stars but wants a new defender in the summer, UtdDistrict understands.
Rúben Amorim recently took charge of his first Manchester United training session after being appointed as the club’s new head coach.
United chose to eject Erik ten Hag from his managerial position after he left the club 14th in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League table, far from the expectations of the club’s board following the Dutchman’s summer contract extension.

Although many United stars remain unavailable to Amorim due to injury or international commitments, the 39-year-old was able to lead a session with Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Mason Mount, and 14 academy stars.
Amorim’s first fixture will be an away trip to Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. He will then manage his first game at Old Trafford the following Thursday against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League.
Amorim happy with striker trio
Although Amorim has not had time to work with many of his first-team squad members yet, he has spent the last two weeks assessing his side and deciding which players he will be happy to work with.
Despite reports claiming that Amorim is already set to sanction sales such as Joshua Zirkzee, UtdDistrict understands that the Portuguese coach is content with his current striker options.
A source has told UtdDistrict that Amorim is “happy” and “willing to work” with his current crop of strikers. Beyond Rasmus Højlund and Zirkzee, Amorim is set to hand Marcus Rashford a chance in the position.
Rashford recently trained as the No. 9 during Amorim’s first training session on Monday afternoon, while Antony was used as a wing-back and Luke Shaw as a left centre-back.
Amorim’s thoughts on the centre-backs
The above information also applies to Amorim’s centre-back options. United currently have six centre-halves on the books, with Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martínez, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans all in the squad.
United will no doubt have to acquire new talent in the 2025 summer transfer window as the futures of the latter three are in doubt, but UtdDistrict have been informed that Amorim is happy with his current crop.
Sources have explained that the new head coach wants to sign at least one new centre-back in the summer, which the club currently has in their plans.
Meanwhile, UtdDistrict understands that Amorim has identified the midfield as his No. 1 priority for the summer transfer window.
