Rúben Amorim deems Manchester United star ‘inadequate’ with club ready to ‘cut their losses’
According to a new report, Rúben Amorim has deemed one of his new Manchester United stars not adequate, and the club are ready to cut their losses in the coming months.
Rúben Amorim has officially taken up his role as Manchester United’s new head coach and is set to take his first training session at Carrington on Monday morning. He steps into the position after the club’s decision to part ways with Erik ten Hag late last month.
In a decisive start, the 39-year-old immediately made changes by dismissing Ruud van Nistelrooy and three other members of the coaching staff upon his arrival in Manchester.
Amorim will now spend the next week assessing the squad to determine his ideal starting lineup. His first match at the helm will be away against Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
He has already hinted at implementing his trademark 3-4-2-1 formation right from the start, raising questions over which players will fit into his tactical setup.
One player not “adequate”
Amorim, who has been at United for a week, will no doubt have been shuffling through various reports surrounding his players as he prepares for life at his new club.
According to TuttoSport, the Portuguese coach has already decided on struggling striker Joshua Zirkzee, who has been deemed surplus to requirements.
The report states that Amorim does not consider the 23-year-old Dutch international to be “adequate”, and United are ready to ‘cut their losses’ on the player.
Zirkzee signed for United in the summer for a fee of £36.5 million but has scored one goal and provided just two assists in 17 appearances this season.

Further to this, journalist Gerardo Fasano has explained that United may offer Zirkzee to Napoli in exchange for Victor Osimhen after Amorim deemed Viktor Gyökeres too hard to sign.
“Manchester United is said to be on the trail of Victor Osimhen. I have been told that the English, through mister Amorim, could include the former Bologna striker Zirkzee in the negotiations for Osimhen,” Fasano revealed.
“Zirkzee could help (Romelu) Lukaku find himself. Money plus Zirkzee for Osimhen. Amorim has understood that Sporting Lisbon could ask too much for Gyökeres and is testing the waters for Osimhen.
“Zirkzee might not be the ideal striker for the coach. The former Bologna player would instead help Lukaku next season: the two would form an important pair.
“However, Juventus is also interested in Zirkzee and can count on Thiago Motta, a coach who has greatly enhanced the player.”
