According to Fabrizio Romano, one Manchester United star will leave the club this summer despite the appointment of Rúben Amorim.

Rúben Amorim has now officially assumed the role of Manchester United‘s head coach, succeeding Erik ten Hag who was dismissed last month.

Despite being announced as the club’s new manager two weeks ago, Amorim faced delays in starting his duties due to issues surrounding his release clause with Sporting CP. Those hurdles have finally been cleared, allowing him to take charge this week.

During his absence, Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped in as interim manager, leading the team to three victories and a draw, which helped improve their standings slightly in both the Premier League and Europa League. Nevertheless, United are still stuck in 13th and 15th positions, respectively.

Now, with his first training session scheduled for Monday, the 39-year-old Amorim has a tough road ahead as he looks to steer United back on track.

United star to leave

However, despite Amorim being set to give players a fresh slate to impress their new boss, Christian Eriksen will depart the club regardless.

According to famed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Eriksen is expected to leave United in June 2025 after his contract expires.

As it stands, the two parties are not discussing an extension on his current deal, and unlike the contracts of most players, United does not have the option to extend it by another season.

Romano explains that although Amorim’s opinion on Eriksen will be considered, the Danish international is expected to leave Old Trafford.

Eriksen breaks his silence

Speaking last week, Eriksen explained that he has not been focusing on his contract situation and that he has not heard any updates from the club.

“I haven’t focused on it yet, and I haven’t heard anything from the club,” Eriksen said ahead of Denmark’s Nations League match against Spain.

“Right now, it’s just about football, and then we have to see where we stand in January and, for that matter, in the summer.

“As a footballer, you just turn up and train, and then it is the coach who decides the team at the weekend. I have not set my hopes or expectations. It belongs to football.”

Eriksen has become an essential cog for United in the last few months, scoring three goals and providing four assists already this season. Only Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes have contributed more goal involvements for the club.

“It has been lovely,” the 32-year-old said of his game time. “As a footballer, you want to play as much as possible and be decisive. It’s great to feel that I’ve really been able to take part.”
