Ruben Amorim no longer considering January exit for Manchester United star after being “particularly impressed”
Manchester United are busy this month in the transfer window as the club want to make signings for Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad.
Ruben Amorim, who took charge in November, has made some progress in implementing his preferred playing style at United despite some inconsistent results.
However, it’s evident that the new heads coach needs reinforcements in key areas within his squad at Old Trafford.
But following years of poor financial management, the club has a tight budget and must sell players to fund new signings this month.
Selling talent from the Academy is viewed to be more beneficial to the balance books as those player sales are considered as ‘pure profit’ as they did not cost the club any money.
United no longer considering Collyer exit
Toby Collyer’s future has been up in the air over recent months due to his minimal involvement in the first-team under Amorim.
Before the 20-year-old came on against Arsenal, his last appearance back came in September when Erik ten Hag was still manager.
The Dutchman rated Collyer highly but it seemed likely that a January exit was on the cards for him, with rumours of loan and permanent moves being discussed.
However, Collyer’s “crazy” display off the bench against The Gunners proved that he could be a useful squad player at United, and it was interesting to see Amorim bring him on ahead of Casemiro or Christian Eriksen.
Following on from that game, reports from The United Stand claim that United are not looking to sell or loan Collyer this month and he will instead remain with the first-team.
It was added that the midfielder is expected to get more opportunities in Amorim’s team, with the Portuguese boss and his coaching staff being “particularly impressed” by Collyer’s work ethic and potential.
Collyer is the perfect backup player at United for now
Collyer is not the most exciting player to watch on the eye but he could be exactly what Amorim needs for the rest of the season.
The type of role which the midfielders do in this new system just simply doesn’t suit Casemiro or Christian Eriksen that much and they can get exposed against better teams – as shown against Newcastle.
While Collyer is inexperienced and doesn’t have the best on-ball attributes in the world, he has all of the physical attributes necessary for the role.

United will not be able to do much business this month, meaning a backup central midfielder will not be at the top of the club’s priorities. A left wingback and attacking player will be the main targets.
So, for now, it seems like Collyer could get the opportunity to get more game-time in the first-team, with his Arsenal cameo showing that he is ready for the challenge.
