Ruben Amorim may have new Man Utd secret weapon after Bournemouth win, he is already impressed

Ruben Amorim may have a new secret weapon at Manchester United after their impressive performance against Bournemouth on Thursday.

Manchester United cruised to a 4-1 victory over Bournemouth in their second Premier League Summer Series fixture, held at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Although some fans were left disappointed by the absence of new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo from the matchday squad, the performance on the pitch more than made up for it.

Ruben Amorim’s side dominated from start to finish, overwhelming Bournemouth with their intensity and quality.

Rasmus Højlund opened the scoring early, with Patrick Dorgu quickly doubling the lead. Amad netted a third shortly after the break, and academy winger Ethan Williams added a fourth following a wave of substitutions.

Bournemouth managed to pull one back late on, but it was little more than a consolation.

Amorim may have new United secret weapon

United performed well against West Ham on the weekend but the levels dropped when changes were made midway through the second half.

That didn’t occur against The Cherries, however, with the young Reds excelling in the final 20 minutes of the game and Williams was the standout.

His finish was brilliant, a low-driven shot towards the near post, and he looked bright in his all round play as well.

After a productive loan spell at Cheltenham Town last term, Williams came back to pre-season with a point to prove and it has been reported that he impressed Amorim in the early weeks of training.

That led to him being included in the pre-season tour squad despite original plans being for him to go on another loan this season but he could very well end up staying at Old Trafford.

Williams pace could be useful for Amorim

With the expected sale of Alejandro Garnacho, United do not have many attackers who are willing to run in behind constantly and Amorim values that attribute in his team.

Williams could be the answer to that problem and push his way into a potential squad role if he continues to impress the United boss this summer.

The Reds are not blessed with many youngsters with that type of profile in the Academy and Williams could benefit from that and eye a place in Amorim’s squad – having those pacey wingers are so useful to have off the bench.

Of course, it is still early days, but the teenager did himself no harm with that display against Bournemouth.
