Rúben Amorim produces ‘major U-turn’ on £105k p/w Manchester United star who listened to his advice
According to reports in Italy, Rúben Amorim has changed his mind on one of Manchester United’s stars, with a potential summer transfer now unlikely.
Rúben Amorim’s influence at Manchester United is beginning to show, as the 39-year-old works to understand and refine his squad.
Weeks of training have allowed the players to adapt to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, while he assesses their strengths and areas for improvement.

United are also shaping their transfer plans for 2025, prioritising the summer window due to limited funds in January.
While Amorim plays a key role in highlighting the team’s needs, the recruitment process is being driven by sporting director Dan Ashworth and director of recruitment Christopher Vivell.
Major transfer U-turn
Last month, multiple reports explained that Rúben Amorim was looking to offload striker Joshua Zirkzee this summer, with the 39-year-old keen to bring in Victor Osimhen as his replacment in a swap deal with Napoli.
However, the latest report from Italian outlet Il Mattino (via OneFootball, Amorim has seemingly changed his mind on the Netherlands international.
After scoring twice against Everton on the weekend, Zirkzee has gained some fans within the Old Trafford crowd, and although there were inital touts that Amorim would want to swap Zirkzee for Osimhen, United’s interest in the Napoli forward, on loan at Galatasaray, has reportedly waned.
Il Mattino explain that United’s contacts with Napoli for Osimhen have taken a sharp turn in recent weeks, with the striker seemingly not of interest, meaning Amorim’s thoughts on Zirkzee may have shifted in the last few games.
However, I Partenopei still retain an interest in Zirkzee and may try for him in the summer, with Juventus also circling the forward.
Zirkzee listening to Amorim
There is little doubt that Zirkzee took Rúben Amorim’s words on board ahead of his brilliant performance against Everton on the weekend.
“Josh has to understand that he has to go into the box for the crosses,” Amorim said last week, and Zirkzee reponded by scoring two goals for the club, both coming from playing on Everton’s defensive line.
“It is everything for the player. He did a great job,” Amorim commended on Sunday evening. “It is good for his confidence.
“We had an idea… we needed fresh legs. The players are helping a lot, congratulations to them.”
