Rúben Amorim delivers “big player” transfer hint following Manchester United’s Victor Osimhen ‘decision’

Rúben Amorim has delivered a hint regarding Manchester United’s transfer plan following a reported decision about signing of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Manchester United are expected to make attacking reinforcements a key focus this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle for goals.

With Bruno Fernandes often the only source of creativity and end product, United’s front line has fallen short throughout the season. Their inconsistency at Old Trafford has only amplified concerns about the lack of attacking threat.

In January, the club allowed several forwards to leave on loan — Antony to Real Betis, Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley to Walsall — leaving the squad noticeably lighter in attacking depth.

Despite those exits, no replacements were brought in. The only January additions were at the back: left wing-back Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu from Lecce and 18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal. The lack of forward reinforcements left many fans puzzled by the club’s approach.

Amorim delivers “big player” transfer hint

Amorim spoke to the press ahead of the club’s crunch clash against Manchester City later this week, and a hot topic of the press conference was surrounding the club’s long-term goals.

Amid claims that the club are aiming to compete for and win the Premier League title by 2028, Amorim was asked whether he sees it too tough of a challenge to catch up to a team such as City in the next few seasons when so much work needs to be done in the coming seasons.

The 40-year-old replied by saying the only way United will be able to catch up to those such as City and others is by focusing on improving themselves and bringing in “big players” who can improve the team, rather than comparing themselves to other clubs.

“Not just Manchester City, but other teams, they already are in a place that we need a lot to catch them and they will improve for sure next season,” Amorim stated. “Again, I just want to focus on our strengths and then try to use our club and bring one or two big players. Sometimes big players for me is different from you.

“We are doing all the stuff for next season to be so much better. If we are going to win something, if it is going to take two years, like in the memo, I don’t know. I will not manage this thing of, ‘in four years I will try something’.

“For me, from next season we need to be so much better because this is a massive club and I like to put that pressure on me and everyone here.”

Amorim’s words come amid Osimhen ‘decision’

With Amorim referencing that he wants to bring in “big players,” he also wanted to point out that this does not mean big names, but rather signifaicnt players within football who could compliment his style of football.

One name that is continually popping up in conjunction with United and fits the mould of Amorim’s hint is Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, who is probably the best striker who is available for transfer this summer after falling out with his parent club Napoli.

According to reports earlier this week, United have contacted Napoli to sound out their interest in Alejandro Garnacho this summer following their bids the player during the 2025 Janaury window.

The above report mentioned that United have decided that they are open to selling Garnacho to Napoli to fund a move for Osimhen durning the same window.

Osimhen is known to have a release clause of around £67 million this summer, but United may look to negotiate a seperate agreement with the Serie A side that would see them pay this over a series of installments, rather than in a lump sum as is often the way with clauses such as this.
