Rúben Amorim to reinstate 185-minute Man Utd star, Harry Maguire decision made vs Leicester City (Premier League)
Rúben Amorim is expected to reinstate a 185-minute player as he makes a decision on Harry Maguire ahead of Manchester United’s trip to face Leicester City in the Premier League.
Manchester United return to Premier League action with a visit to Leicester City, as Rúben Amorim looks to build on his side’s impressive midweek performance.
United were in fine form on Thursday night, cruising to a 4-1 win over Real Sociedad to secure a place in the Europa League quarter-finals, where they will face Olympique Lyonnais next month.
With that tie still some way off, United’s immediate focus is on climbing the Premier League table, where they currently sit 14th.
This fixture also sees United come up against club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, who had a brief stint as interim manager before Amorim’s arrival in November. It will be the second time the two managers face off this season.
United have already beaten Leicester three times this campaign, with victories in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Premier League—all at Old Trafford. However, this time they face the challenge of winning at the King Power Stadium.
Amorim to reinstate Mount as Maguire decision made
Speaking ahead of the Leicester clash, Amorim confirmed that Mason Mount would probably make a much-anticipated return to United’s matchday squad on Sunday evening.
“I think he is going to [be on] the bench,” Amorim told the press of Mount on Thursday. “We will see, but we need every player and if he is fit, I am going to play him. He cannot play too many minutes, just five minutes of Mason Mount is perfect.”
Mount has missed around three months with a hamstring injury but returned to training earlier this week, with the head coach explaining they will take his reintegration very slowly.
Meanwhile, it’s likely that centre-back Harry Maguire will not make his return this weekend after missing the team’s last two fixtures.
Although Amorim stated on Thursday that the club would decide on Maguire later this week, he has not been included in the recent England squad, meaning he may not be fit and, therefore, unavailable against his former club.
Ayden Heaven may be handed his second start in a row in Maguire’s absence following a fantastic performance against Sociedad in midweek, with the Old Trafford crowd no doubt preferring the 18-year-old to Victor Lindelöf as a left centre-back.
Meanwhile, young striker Chido Obi is expected to return to the matchday team after missing the Sociedad tie as he is not registered for European competition.
There may also be an inclusion for Jack Fletcher, who scored twice for the Under-21s on Friday evening and has been publicly praised by Amorim of late.
With Patrick Dorgu serving the final game of his three-match suspension following a red card against Ipswich Town, it’s likely that Harry Amass will make the squad as a reserve left-back.
