Rúben Amorim delivers Manchester United injury updates as four players not in training
Rúben Amorim has issued the latest team news as four Manchester United stars were not spotted in training ahead of the Europa League tie against Bodo/Glimt.
Rúben Amorim is preparing for his second match as Manchester United head coach on Thursday evening, following a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.
The Europa League clash with Bodo/Glimt will see him take charge at Old Trafford for the first time since his appointment earlier this month.
United currently sit 15th in the Europa League standings, three points behind the top eight positions that guarantee automatic qualification for the next stage.
With three draws and one win in the competition so far, United face a pivotal task in their remaining four group matches to climb the table and avoid the play-off round before the knockout phase next year.
Four not in training
Ahead of the tie, United held an open training session for cameras and journalists to view the team as they prepared to face the Norweigan side.
However, four of Amorim’s stars were not in training. Leny Yoro, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelöf, and Toby Collyer were all absent as the side prepares to face their fifth Europa League game of the campaign.
It was confirmed earlier on Wednesday morning that Yoro’s absence was planned as he continues to undergo rehabilitation from a foot injury sustained in pre-season.
However, in more positive news, Lisandro Martínez and Harry Maguire were both welcomed back to training. Martínez missed the Ipswich tie with a back issue, while Maguire has not played since mid-October.
Amorim’s injury update
Speaking to the press, Amorim was asked if both Maguire and Martínez are ready to play football following their returns.
“Not Harry. Licha is ready,” Ruben told reporters. “He didn’t stop [playing] too much time so I feel he is ready.
“It is a different situation with Harry, we need them both but they are in a different situation. They are both training, Harry soon will be on the pitch also.”
On Yoro, Amorim said: “He is available to train but we are working on his fitness. This is important.
“He is a young guy, this is a massive club. It’s very important the first image, so we will try to put it together because he’s a great talent. We believe a lot in him and we are trying to prepare the best way to start with Leny.”
The 39-year-old was also keen to point out that fans should expect rotation and changes to the side that faces Bodo/Glimt, as training schedules collide with games.
“They [the squad] is already split,” he said. “If Bruno [Fernandes] plays tomorrow, he cannot train for two days. He can only train slowly. Some of the guys will field the game, some of the guys will train the next day.”
