I did my coaching badges with Rúben Amorim – Manchester United have nailed it
Gabby Agbonlahor has revealed that after his experience doing his coaching badges with Rúben Amorim, Manchester United have the right man.
Manchester United are pushing forward to appoint Rúben Amorim as their next Head Coach following the departure of Erik ten Hag.
Ten Hag’s exit was decided after United’s 2-1 loss to West Ham, where a controversial penalty, dispatched by Jarrad Bowen, proved decisive.

United confirmed Ten Hag’s dismissal on Monday morning, and by evening, reports had surfaced naming Sporting CP’s Rúben Amorim as their leading candidate, with terms reportedly settled between the two parties.
Meanwhile, as United finalise Amorim’s release from Sporting, interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge and celebrated a commanding 5-2 victory over Leicester City in his first match at the helm.
United have the right man
Former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor, who plied his trade for Aston Villa, has revealed that he did his coaching badges alongside Amorim and was one of the most laser-focused people he met.
“I did do my coaching badges with him,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT. “He was one of the ones that was there, you could tell he was there, and he was so into it in the way of like he just had to get his badges to then go and start managing. He was very focused.
“Since the start of last season, Sporting Lisbon has scored the most goals in the top six leagues, 129 goals. They were waiting 19 years to win a title. He goes there, he’s won two in the last five seasons, Amorim.
“He coached for only two months at Braga before Sporting Lisbon went and paid 10 million euros, which is the fourth biggest transfer fee for a manager after Nagelsmann went to Bayern Munich from Leipzig for 25 million euros. Graham Potter, Brighton to Chelsea, 23 million euros. Vilas Boas, Porto to Chelsea, 15 million.
“Then Amirim from Braga to Sporting Lisbon, 10 million euros. So, I just think when you look at what he’s done since leaving Braga to Sporting Lisbon, then breaking that 19 years without winning a league title, I think Manchester United have got the right man.”
