Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United contract details have been revealed, and his likely first game as manager has been explained.

Manchester United are in full force to appoint Ruben Amorim as the club’s next Head Coach after they chose to sack Erik ten Hag from the position.

The former Dutch boss’ fate was sealed after the Reds lost 2-1 against West Ham in the Premier League last weekend following a controversial penalty call that Jarrad Bowen duly dispatched.

With Ten Hag officially having left the club on Monday morning, the media produced a flurry of news surrounding who could replace the boss, revealing in the evening that Sporting CP’s Amorim was their top choice and had already agreed terms.

However, with United facing Leicester City and Chelsea this week, Ruud van Nistelrooy is taking charge of the side in the interim.

Amorim’s Man United contract

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, United have presented Amorim with a three-year contract, which would see his deal run until 2027.

Although it is not mentioned in the report, United’s offer will likely include the option for the club to extend this by a further season, which is a common feature in many of their deals.

Beyond this, it is reported that United are offering Amorim a yearly wage of around £5.8-6.6 million, which is roughly the same wage they paid Ten Hag during his tenure at Old Trafford.

This would see Amorim almost triple his salary. He currently earns around £2.5 million per annum at Sporting CP.

Likely first game

Van Nistelrooy will select the team that starts at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening for United’s game against Leicester.

However, according to The Guardian, Amorim is “unlikely” to be instated in time to manage the game against Chelsea this weekend, meaning Van Nistelrooy is likely to take charge of this fixture, too.

Almost all reports from England’s side claim that Amorim has already agreed to the above terms and the project proposed to him and that United are happy to pay the £8.3 million release clause in his current contract.

Therefore, if negotiations with Sporting are swift, Amorim could be in the dugout for the first time at United the game after Chelsea, which is a home tie against Greek side PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday next week.

However, should negotiations take longer than this, his opening game would still be at Old Trafford, but against Leicester, in the Premier League.
