Rúben Amorim has been urged to complete a stunning free transfer that would make Manchester United a “better team” over the coming seasons.

Rúben Amorim’s vision for Manchester United is beginning to take shape as the 39-year-old works to evaluate and refine his squad.

Weeks of training have given the players time to adjust to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, while he gains a clearer understanding of their strengths and areas needing improvement.

Meanwhile, United are focusing on their 2025 transfer strategy, prioritising summer moves due to a limited January budget.

Although Amorim has a key role in identifying the team’s needs, the recruitment process is being directed by sporting director Dan Ashworth and director of recruitment Christopher Vivell.

United urged to resign Gomes

Former United striker Andy Cole has urged the club to secure the transfer of Angel Gomes this summer, which would see the 24-year-old complete a stunning return to his former club.

Gomes left United in the summer of 2020 after he failed to make an impact in the first team, signing for French side Lille.

He has since become a prominent part of the team, also making his debut for England earlier this year.

“Being very honest, I was disappointed to see Angel leave in the first place,” Cole told BetFred.

“He’s a very talented young man and you’re always going to have that type of nonsense where people say that he was too small for the Premier League and all that, but he’s moved to France, made a very good career for himself and represented England quite a few times, so fair play to him.

“If that move was to happen, I have no doubts that he’d make Manchester United a better team.”

Gomes still loves United

Regarding the 24-year-old’s thoughts on his next destination, previous reports have claimed that he would favour a move back to United over other Premier League sides.

It is said that he wants a three-year contract at Old Trafford plus the option to extend for a further season, which is a common clause United insert into their player’s contracts to retain their value.

“It was a very difficult decision,” Gomes said last year when asked about his departure from Old Trafford. “In my heart, I wanted to leave, in my head, I was thinking of staying. But I had to follow my heart. I felt that I needed to take another step in my career.

“I felt that had I stayed, there wouldn’t be a lot of opportunities for me. Luis Campos [Lille’s then sporting director] and Lille spoke about their project and I believed in it even more, that’s what convinced me to move – the faith Lille had in me.

“Do I imagine myself coming back one day? It’s home. I would love to come back. But you never know in football. I just have to keep my feet on the ground and keep playing, making the most of it. I can’t predict what will happen in the future.”
