“Shown me…” Rúben Amorim hints at permanent position change for “underrated” Manchester United star

Rúben Amorim has hinted at a permanent position change for one Manchester United star who was dubbed “underrated” following his performance vs Real Sociedad.
Manchester United marched into the Europa League quarter-finals with a 4-1 win over Real Sociedad, fueled by a Bruno Fernandes hat-trick and a late goal from Diogo Dalot.
Sociedad took an early lead at Old Trafford through a Mikel Oyarzabal penalty, but United hit back quickly as Fernandes equalised from the spot after Rasmus Højlund was fouled.
Fernandes put United ahead with another penalty early in the second half after Patrick Dorgu was brought down, before Sociedad were reduced to ten men when Jon Aramburu was sent off for a foul on Dorgu.
United pressed on, with Fernandes completing his hat-trick before Dalot capped off the victory in stoppage time. Rúben Amorim’s side will now face Olympique Lyonnais in the quarter-finals.
Amorim hints at Garnacho position change
While Fernandes was no doubt the Player of the Match as he secured a hat-trick at Old Trafford for the second time in his career, focus has also been on Alejandro Garnacho.
Former United midfielder Paul Scholes praised Garnacho for his display against Real Sociedad, playing on the right wing instead of the left.
In the last week, Garnacho has started on the right three times, and speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Amorim hinted that he feels the 20-year-old may be more useful as a right winger instead of on the left.
“Without a lot of options we are trying to put our players in the best positions,” Amorim explained after the final whistle.
“You can feel they have more freedom because of the one game in Spain [first leg against Real Sociedad] we tried to use the pace of Garnacho on the right.
“He has shown me so many things on the right, maybe better than the left.”
Garnacho’s next step is his decision-making
Scholes pointed out after the game that Garnacho often finds himself in very good positions in attack, but his decision-making lets him down.

As a young winger, this is expected, but as he develops into a seasoned senior pro, he must look to make better decisions in the final third.
Garnacho assisted two of United’s three goals from open play against Sociedad and was dubbed “underrated” for his performance. Still, the winger had plenty of chances to create further goals had he made the right decisions.
If Garnacho can start becoming a more rational thinker in the final third as he adjusts to the new demands of Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, he could become an incredibly potent player for seasons to come at Old Trafford.
