Ruben Amorim makes interesting claim about “very good players” ahead of Man United arrival
Ruben Amorim has made an interesting claim about “very good players” ahead of his Manchester United arrival on Monday.
Manchester United confirmed that Ruben Amorim would become the club’s new head coach earlier this month.
The 39-year-old joins Old Trafford during a difficult time and he will be eager to try and improve things when he enters the building.
Many are expecting Amorim to introduce his 3-4-3 shape to the United squad and some players could excel in that system.
However, others may struggle and it is likely that the Portuguese boss will need to sign players suited to the formation and roles to maximise performances.
In recent days Amorim had confirmed that he would not be attempting to sign any of his Sporting players in the January transfer window.
Viktor Gyökeres has been the player with the most links to the club, partly due to the goalscoring issues within the squad Amorim is inheriting.
However, United’s new head coach has refused to rule out any potential moves for players of the Portuguese side after the season’s end.
“Not in January, that’s what I said. I don’t know about the summer,” admitted Amorim, as per ManUnitedZone.
“The first thing is to hold out until the summer [laughs]. The Sporting players are very good players. We’ll see.”
There are certainly some interesting talents in the Sporting squad and United may take advantage of Amorim’s relationship with some of them.
However, almost every United fan would agree that they do not want to see Amorim signing too many players who he has previously worked with.
That was a big issue under Erik ten Hag, who regularly signed players either from Ajax or the Eredivisie.
Ultimately, it is well known that Amorim does not have the same power in terms of transfers as Ten Hag did, and while he will likely provide his assessment on potential targets and players from Sporting, the final decision will come from the higher-ups.
