Ruben Amorim has huge £107m problem at Man Utd that fans are sick and tired of

Many players at Manchester United are yet to properly impress under new head coach Ruben Amorim and some have been frustrating with their performances.

Manchester United’s form under Ruben Amorim has been somewhat inconsistent, with five wins in his opening nine games.

After an impressive 2-1 triumph over Manchester City last weekend, they suffered a disheartening 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Amid these varied results, Amorim remains focused on the team’s development within his preferred tactical framework.

While some players have thrived under his system, others have found it challenging to adapt. It is evident that the 39-year-old will require additional signings to fully realise his vision.

Zirkzee and Højlund not performing under Amorim

United’s biggest problem right now seems to be the lack of top quality options available at wingback, with Amad Diallo being the only player to have properly impressed in the position.

However, you can also not avoid the clear problem up front in this United squad. Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have not been impressive so far.

Considering that those two players have scored five and three respectively since Amorim’s arrival, it seems a strange argument.

But the levels they are playing at have not been good enough, and the regular rotation between the two shows that neither player has really took their chance when starting games.

Instead, the attacking duo which United paid a total of £107 million for have shown that they need major improvements in order to be the starting striker in a top level side.

Can Zirkzee and Højlund become top level strikers?

Højlund is one of the best finishers in the Premier League but still lacks the anticipation needed to get on the end of high quality chances.

The Dane averages 1.1 shots per 90 minutes in the league this season. There are six other United players ahead of him in that ranking.

Realistically, this should be something that the 21-year-old can improve. He’s often only a matter of centimeters away from meeting some crosses but is just that little bit too slow.

Meanwhile, Zirkzee still looks far away from reaching a consistent level at Old Trafford. While he actually seems to find better spaces in the penalty box, his sharpness and intensity has been exploited in the English top flight so far.

We have seen things click for fellow summer signing Manuel Ugarte, who looked way off the pace in his early appearances, but Zirkzee’s playstyle does not suggest he will have quite the same turnaround.

Fans are growing frustrated with these two young forwards and it seems crazy that United do not have an experienced no.9 for either of them to learn from and rotate with.

Instead, Amorim needs to try and build them both up to try and become consistent scorers in the Premier League, but it seems easier said than done.
