Manchester United are willing to let one of Rúben Amorim’s key players leave this summer amid interest from the Turkish club Besiktas.
With Ruben Amorim undertaking a serious rebuild of his squad at Old Trafford this summer, a number of older players are set to leave Manchester United.
Veterans Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen are all expected to move on from United this summer, with Amorim looking to revitalise his current squad to suit his needs.
Casemiro is the latest name to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer. Signed for £60 million from Real Madrid, the 33-year-old was a vital part of the squad in his first season, but showed very inconsistent form in the proceeding years.
While struggling at times in the league, his Europa League form was crucial in helping United reach the final, providing three assists in their epic comeback against Olympique Lyonnais in the quarter-finals, and scoring twice against Athletic Club in the semi-finals.
Besiktas in for the Brazilian
With Besiktas currently sitting in 4th place in the Süper Lig, the club have lofty ambitions of winning next season’s title with former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær at the helm.
With that in mind, according to Fanatik, they are looking to make a move for Casemiro to help bolster their squad ahead of next season’s league campaign.
With just a year left on his contract, a move for the defensive midfielder would cost in the region of £8.5 million, but it’s believed that Besiktas would want to bring in Casemiro on loan, rather than permanently.
Amorim has reportedly approved of Casemiro’s departure as he wants to bring in a number of fresh faces this summer, despite the Brazilian playing a key role in the latter part of the club’s 2024/25 campaign.
Complete midfield revamp set to take place
While much has been made of United’s need for a complete overhaul across the forward line, the midfield is also an area that requires several reinforcements ahead of next season’s Premier League campaign.
With several midfielders leaving or expected to leave, Amorim must bring in replacements who, most importantly, fit his tactical system.
Under Erik ten Hag, Bruno Fernandes played as an attacking No. 10, but this season under Amorim, we’ve seen him deployed more as a deep-lying playmaker, and he doesn’t really have a suited position in the line-up.
Players like Manuel Ugarte and, when fit, Mason Mount, are the types of players that Amorim needs. Players who bring energy to the side and are versatile enough to play a number of positions.
With United working on a limited budget this summer, they must sign players who are both suited to Amorim’s playing style and the physical nature of the Premier League to get back into European competition.
