Ruben Amorim has already proven why he’s different to Erik ten Hag with 5-word message to Man Utd players
Ruben Amorim has already proven why he is different to Erik ten Hag with a five-word message to Manchester United players.
Ruben Amorim arrived at Manchester United on Monday afternoon to begin his new role as head coach at Old Trafford.
He was welcomed at Carrington by Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox, and Dan Ashworth, the team responsible for United’s football operations.
The 39-year-old then met up with members of the squad in their rehabilitation sessions on Tuesday.
He was greeted by the likes of Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw, as well as several Academy talents in the building.
With less than two weeks until his debut match against Ipswich Town in the Premier League, Amorim now has crucial time to prepare behind the scenes.
Amorim proves difference to Ten Hag
Of course, Erik ten Hag was ultimately sacked at Old Trafford due to the team’s poor performances on the pitch.
Although that was a by-product of the fact that the Dutchman could not get the best out of the players in his squad.
Unlike previous tenures, the players never seemed to give up on the manager and throw the towel in, but they were unable to hit any extreme heights in the back-end of his tenure to keep him in a job.
It seemed that he has their respect, but they weren’t inspired by him. Various reports had suggested that Ten Hag did not usually have the human touch behind-the-scenes to deal with the entire playing squad.
In contrast, it has been claimed that one of Amorim’s best attributes is the relationship he has with the players in his team. At only 39, the former Benfica player has managed to find a balance between having a joke and being serious.
That has already appeared evident in his first recorded conversations with United players, with the club uploading a clip of him meeting them on Tuesday.
After embracing Mount with a hug, Amorim was speaking to a group of the players, including Luke Shaw, where he explained his excitement to get started.
“We are thrilled to be here,” the new head coach explained before saying an important five-word message to the group.
“We have to have fun,” he added, with a smile.
United managers have previously been criticised of being too soft with the players and since then the criticism has come the other way, for being too harsh.
Amorim seems to have the right balance. At Sporting, he made sure the team respected him and he moved players on who didn’t fit his style.
However, his human touch was shown in their latest victories since it was announced that he would be leaving, especially the incredible 4-1 win against Manchester City.
Those players being able to produce those performances, despite knowing he was leaving, shows exactly what Amorim brings to the table, and his first message to United players seems like a sign of things to come. Balance.
