Royal Antwerp issue Senne Lammens transfer confirmation as Man Utd ‘step up’ interest in “brilliant” star

Royal Antwerp have issued their stance on Senne Lammens’ future this summer as Manchester United look to sign the young Belgian goalkeeper.

Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer as Rúben Amorim continues to reshape his squad ahead of his first full season in charge.

While Amorim and André Onana are said to have a strong working relationship, as revealed by UtdDistrict, the goalkeeper’s long-term future at the club remains uncertain.

Onana, 29, has shown moments of the form that earned him a move from Inter Milan, but inconsistency has led to doubts about his place in the team.

Following the £62.5 million signing of Matheus Cunha and a third bid for Bryan Mbeumo worth £65 million plus £5 million in add-ons hopefully accepted, Amorim is now expected to focus on strengthening the goalkeeping department.

With Onana set to miss pre-season and possibly the start of the Premier League campaign due to a hamstring injury, and Altay Bayindir likely to leave, United are in urgent need of a new option between the posts.

United to step up Lammens interest

In the last week, United have been linked with Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, with reports from Gazet van Antwerpen claiming that the club have “already thoroughly investigated” the player.

It has been reported in Belgium that the 23-year-old is available for a fee of around £17-20 million this summer, representing fantastic market value for a “brilliant” young goalkeeper.

According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, United are now ready to step up their pursuit of Lammens this summer in their hunt for a new shot-stopper.

With Bayındır’s agent holding crunch talks with United and the possibility of departing, bringing in a 23-year-old shot-stopper to cover for Onana during his injury and provide genuine competition throughout the season for a low fee could be a fantastic strategic move from the Reds.

Overmars issues Lammens transfer statement

Amid interest in Lammens from across Europe, Antwerp’s sporting director Marc Overmars has confirmed that the Belgian will leave this summer.

“The transfer of Senne Lammens has to happen, because we’ve already signed his replacement,” Overmars recently explained to the Belgian press. We’d rather not see a Butez-Lammens scenario again. Senne is our most sought-after player. There are plenty of clubs ready to make a move.”

Lammens himself has also previously gushed over United, admitting that he conducted some research into Amorim’s side after hearing about their interest back in February.

“The first time I heard it, I thought: wow, immediately a world team that follows you. That is special. Of course, I was also asked about it a lot, and when I made a save in training,” Lammens told Belgian media back in February when questioned on United’s interest.

“Those top clubs have so many scouts and follow so many players. So it doesn’t have to mean anything yet. It will only become clear in the summer whether anything will come of it. But of course, it is only positive.

“Especially because it is about the best competition in the world and my profile – my stature and way of playing – is suitable for English football. You have to physically hold your own there, and that suits me.

“I do follow the teams that follow you a bit. But it’s not like I’m watching full matches. Summaries are enough.”
