Roy Keane has highlighted three ‘big problems’ that new head coach Ruben Amorim needs to solve at Manchester United.

Manchester United drew 1-1 against Chelsea on Sunday evening in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s second game in charge on an interim basis.

It was a game full of technical errors from both sides and United continued their trend of failing to take some clear-cut chances to secure three points.

Erik ten Hag left the side in dire state when he was sacked last week. They remain in the bottom half of the Premier League table and sit 21st in the Europa League standings.

Ruben Amorim, who will take charge as head coach next week, has his work cut out for him to succeed at Old Trafford.

Former club captain Roy Keane was on punditry duty for the game on the weekend and pointed out three ‘big problems’ that the new Portuguese boss is going to need to solve.

Firstly, Keane believes that the physical levels of the squad are underwhelming and that they either can’t run in big spaces or don’t want to.

“There’s a few players in the United team in big positions who can’t run, which is a big problem,” Keane said on Sky Sports.

“But they also have players in the team who don’t want to run and when they do run they don’t run hard enough, fast enough, for long enough.

“He [Amorim] has to get that into the dressing room, that mentality. The players who aren’t doing it you have to try and move them on.

“This team doesn’t run, that’s a big problem. They’ve got really talented players but if you’re not going to run you’ll get nowhere fast.”

The former Sunderland manager also criticised the way in which the squad reacts in difficult situations, saying, “This group of players don’t dig in when the going gets tough they go under, they go under too easily.”

But the most stark improvement needed at Old Trafford is the lack of goalscoring. They have netted just nine times in 10 Premier League games so far this term.

“The lack of goals is a huge problem for Man United,” Keane stressed. “Every time I read the league table, after nine or 10 games, minus three goals for Man Utd, it’s hard to read.”
