Roy Keane and Gary Neville agree on Man United star after West Ham win
Roy Keane and Gary Neville have agreed on one Manchester United star as they won 3-0 against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.
United were comfortable victors at Old Trafford for one of the first times this season after goals from Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho put them into a comfortable lead.
West Ham were threatening from set-pieces but failed to land a glove on United in settled possession with their defensive setup.
Once again, Kobbie Mainoo delivered a classy and mature performance in the centre of midfield. He was eventually replaced midway through the second half.
It was seen as a good piece of management from Erik ten Hag after the young midfielder played 90 minutes against Wolves on Thursday and scored the winning goal in dramatic fashion.
Before the game this weekend, the Sky Sports punditry panel were discussing the young starlet, with both Roy Keane and Gary Neville in agreement about his quality.
“Well they [supporters] will be delighted with him so far,” Keane said. “He’s taken his opportunity and it’s a big role, playing in the middle of the park, but that goal would’ve been a huge boost for him.
“He looks like he’s got the right temperament, that’s what I’m looking for, to go far. Yes, he’s made a few mistakes but that’s all part of the game.
“He’s a smart, intelligent footballer and he can go right to the very top. The senior players will need to keep him grounded, make sure he learns, but he’s got the composure and we’ve seen that already. Defensively, he can get around the pitch but the kid has a chance, obviously.”
Former United teammate Gary Neville added: “To be fair to Ten Hag, I made the inquiry in the transfer window over the summer about whether they needed another central midfielder. [Sofyan] Amrabat was linked with them at the time but they’ve said that if Mainoo hadn’t been injured, they’d have not brought anyone in.
“Because he did go down, Amrabat came in but the faith was there in him (Mainoo) from the start. He’s proven already that he’s got the quality as well as the temperament to play in these big matches, he’s a real star.”
