Rio Ferdinand compares Alejandro Garnacho to ex-Man United teammate, they both have rare attribute
Rio Ferdinand has compared Alejandro Garnacho to one of his ex-Manchester United teammates and claimed that they both have a rare attribute.
Alejandro Garnacho has been Manchester United’s most prolific player in the final third so far this season.
The Argentine winger already has 11 goal contributions and will feel like he should have more. It seems like he could easily end the season with some solid numbers.
However, he has also received criticism for recent performances, most notably from a fan outside of Old Trafford before the PAOK game last week.
Bruno Fernandes defended the 20-year-old after he scored a rocket against Leicester City and refused to celebrate.
Ferdinand compares Garnacho to Nani
Rio Ferdinand also came to the defence of Garnacho, and called the supporter who looked to antagonise him ‘a fool’.
The former United defender also explained that the Academy graduate reminds him of former teammate Luis Nani for one particular reason.
“He’s a tryer, he gives you everything he’s got – he reminds me of [Luis] Nani in that sense,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.
“Nani never always picked the right decision, Nani never always executed at the end of it.
“But one thing he never lacked was balls to keep going again, give me it again, because I’ll tell you one thing, the amount of players that had ability but made a mistake on the big stage and went into their shell and took the easy option every time, there’s loads of them.
“There ain’t many that get up and go, ‘give it to me again, I’ve lost it three times but give it to me again’… he’s got big, big balls.”
Garnacho’s rare attribute
That is something that many United fans admire about Garnacho and it helps him in games a lot.
While you can nitpick about his decision making or final product, he will continue to get opportunities in front of goal simply due to his relentless attitude.
Those other things can certainly help him become an even more dangerous player, but they are also not a guarantee for any 20-year-old player and are things that come with time.
All Garnacho needs right now is to have his minutes managed correctly. He showed how dangerous he can be from the bench on the weekend and also has been able to shine from the start. A combination of both will work well.
