Manchester United’s 27-man training squad ahead of the first-leg of their Europa League semi-final clash with Athletic Bilbao has been revealed.
Manchester United have underwhelmed for much of the season, with the Europa League now emerging as their main focus — presenting a genuine chance to claim silverware and secure a return to the Champions League next season.
Ruben Amorim’s side remains the only unbeaten team in European competition this campaign, having overcome Real Sociedad and Lyon in the knockout stages to book their place in the semi-finals.
Awaiting them is their most formidable test yet: Athletic Bilbao. The Spanish side, currently occupying fourth place in La Liga, offer a blend of tactical discipline and attacking prowess that is likely to prove a stern opponent.
The opening leg will take place in Spain later this week, before Old Trafford hosts the decisive return fixture the following Thursday.
Amad and De Ligt return to United training ahead of Bilbao clash
Ahead of United’s trip to Bilbao, there was an open training session hosted at Carrington on Wednesday morning.
Amorim’s side were working hard and it was immediately noticed that Matthijs de Ligt and Amad were back involved in the team training.
It remains to be seen whether either of them will be fit enough to be in the travelling squad but they will both likely be available for the return leg next week.
Meanwhile, there were several young players involved in the session, including Sekou Kone, Jaydan Kamason and Bendito Mantato.
Chido Obi was also in the session but is not eligible to play in the Europa League for United this season.
